Learning the treble crochet stitch is easy! I am a Craft Yarn Council Certified Instructor and I am here to teach you the easiest, and most accurate, method possible. On my site, you'll find video, picture and written tutorials for crochet and other textile crafts. Crochet is an extremely relaxing hobby and there are many benefits to learning how to crochet.
The fabric that this stitch creates has great drape with noticeable gaps between the stitches. It is commonly used in shawls and ruanas.
My experience has been that the treble crochet is the least common of the basic stitches. You see it a lot in vintage patterns. Modern patterns, not so much. That means you've almost certainly learned how to double crochet first! Which is a great thing! This stitch follows the same format as the double crochet with just one more yarn over. Let's take a look at what I mean by that!

🧺 Supplies
Any yarn and hook can be used to create this stitch.
⛓️ Turning chains
The purpose of the turning chain is to bring the yarn and hook up to the height of the next row (or round) to prevent warping the edges of your project.
For treble crochet, you will always chain 4. The turning chain should count as a stitch.

What kind of yarn are you using.

Hi there! Thanks for asking. I’m using Crazy Sexy Wool by Wool and the Gang. The colorway is “Stonewash Blue” and I’m using a M/N 9.00mm hook.
Feel free to use whatever you have on hand though. Bulky or super bulky yarn would be best for a beginner. The label on the skein of yarn will recommend the best hook size for that particular yarn. Hope this is helpful!
