If you're wondering how to add or join yarn from a new skein you are in the right place! Maybe you ran out of yarn and are wondering how to attach yarn from the next ball. Or maybe you're trying to learn how to do color-work for crochet. In this tutorial, we'll go over the steps needed to achieve this for half double crochet.

Adding new yarn to half double crochet projects varies from all other stitches. Typically, new yarn will be added when there are two loops remaining on the hook. For half double crochet we switch to the new yarn when there are three loops remaining on the hook.

📓 How to add or join yarn - half double crochet

Begin the yarn change process in the stitch prior to where you want the change to occur. Begin the stitch as usual. When there are three loops left on the hook, grab the new yarn and pull that through to complete the stitch. Make sure that both of the tails (the new and old yarn) are both at least 6" long.

Work your stitches as usual, with the new yarn.
