SC2TOG, or Decreasing
Single crochet two together, or sc2tog, is a necessary skill for shaping your crochet projects. This stitch creates a decrease in the fabric. What we are doing is working two stitches together so that they become one. It may sound tricky at first, but I promise that it's easy! With my video and photo tutorials, I think you'll get the hang of it in no time.
Before we get into the instructions, let me tell you a little bit about this stitch. You'll also see sc2tog written as dec, for decrease. Each decrease subtracts one stitch from the round, or row, that you are working on. We will normally work decreases with an even number of stitches between them. So you may notice this in your pattern. Types of projects that feature this stitch can include: garments and accessories such as hats, sweaters, bralettes, and more. You'll also find that this stitch is used in most amigurumi patterns.
Finally, each of the basic stitches has a unique way to be decreased. That said, the general formula will remain the same. In this post, we are looking at how to decrease single crochet stitches.
Let's look at how to begin.
