The Russian Join: A Knotless Way to Avoid Weaving in Tails
How do you connect two pieces of yarn without having to weave in tail ends? Let me show you! The Russian join is a great technique for crocheters and knitters of all skill levels. This will be your go-to technique for connecting yarn ends.

Skills Needed
- Basic skills with needle and thread (such as, weaving in ends)
Advantages of the Russian Join
The best thing about this technique is that you won't have to weave in ends. Heck! Yes! Most knitters and crocheters can not stand the process of weaving in ends. I am right there with you guys. This is a secure alternative. If you follow my tutorial, there's no way that these ends are coming unraveled.
The second advantage is that there are no knots involved. A lot of folks tend to rely on knots, but this is a roll of dice in terms of future security. Can you imagine making a whole project and then one of those knots in the middle comes undone during washing? This is the stuff of nightmares! Do not rely on any kind of knot unless you are a sailor, macrame artist, or some kind of Scout. It's just not worth the gamble when there are plenty of ways to join yarn.
When Won't the Russian Join Work?
This technique will only work with plied yarn. This will include most yarns. Some exclusions include: roving wool, chenille, and faux fur yarn.
You will encounter some issues if you're trying to use this technique while doing any kind of colorwork. I have successfully done it in the past but it requires great timing and a lot more patience. If the color change is happening at the start/end of the row, you shouldn't encounter too much difficulty.
Let's take a look at how they're made.
